"[title can be any variation of the acronym 'MPD', officially standing for 'Multiple Personality Disorder', though the opening to the film should have an LSD-style cascade of different meanings (ex.: 'Murderous Pig Diabolical', 'Malevolent Party Destruction', 'Milk Plenty Direction', etc.)]" An Unremarkable Man starts receiving calls from a mysterious source commanding him to follow inexplicable and sometimes inane instructions in order to accomplish some seemingly unrelated goal. (Important note: All shots of UM on the phone show only half of his face, with one hand holding a phone up to his ear.) (Instructions will be illustrated by black-and-white shots of the man performing each action, such as writing random words on vending machines with a tube of lipstick or nailing latex gloves to a wooden fence.) UM begins to concoct progressively more bizarre excuses as to why he has to leave home or work at unusual times that, him being married, start to worry his wife. (Sub-plot: She thinks he's cheating on her, but discovers evidence of his strange activities [or follows him and witnesses them being carried out first-hand] and confronts him about both things.) (Note: The man is never seen actually carrying out his orders. When he makes an excuse and leaves, the focus switches to his wife's actions.) Upon losing his job, UM starts to doubt the legitimacy of the mysterious source's authority and "misinterprets" MS's instructions in order to see what happens. MS becomes immediately vengeful towards UM's apparent insubordination and begins seeking to punish him. UM begins to see strange men in suits and odd masks following him around everywhere (maybe forego the suits - too cliche?). Eventually, after a horrifying nighttime encounter with one of the masked men, UM disappears. His wife goes to the police for help, but their search turns up nothing. Years later, the wife seeks out a detective to attempt the task of finding her lost husband's whereabouts, or at least clearing up some of the mystery around his disappearance. The detective she meets with turns out to be her husband wearing a false moustache, which renders her unable to recognize him. After agreeing to accept the job, UM watches his wife leave and then wipes sweat off his brow before calling his office phone using his cell and having a conversation with himself (he was MS all along) about how the encounter with his wife came dangerously close to revealing his identity and how she needs to be "taken care of." (Realized that the presence of the masked men doesn't make sense in light of the ending. Maybe instead of simply disappearing they either force him into a car [which UM is shown driving earlier in the film?] or convince him to get on a bus.)
