Joanna Cretasd was born in the village of Celesthem, which borders a sprawling and beautiful forest. Celesthem's inhabitants would often venture deep into the forest to hunt and gather wood. Due to the sheer abundance of supplies available travellers would often pass through on their way to the nearby ports and towns and trade for skins and food. The village quickly grew into a small trade-hub and expanded greatly, becoming a bustling town, with more and more animals and felled trees being brought in every day.

Soon after, hunters and wood-gatherers began disappearing in the forest, search parties were organised but none were successful. Eventually the search parties themselves disappeared too. As more people went missing many villagers fled, fleeing to the safety of nearby towns. Fearing for their town, the elders made it forbidden to enter the forest under any circumstance. Celesthem became a typical farming village, the villagers would still trade with the occasional traveller, but nowhere as many as it once did.

Joanna was born several years later to Aaron and Olivia. She grew up in awe of the nature around her, often eschewing her duties on the farm to wander through the fields, spending most of her time in a rose patch outside the village.
