I find that a helmet tends to give me tunnel vision, regardless of how much of my vision it physically obstructs, and it is more useful to me to be aware of my surroundings when I have to navigate flat, busy places. Wearing a helmet isnt the only thing that matters tho, the one trick tip that is missing is how to properly fall without hitting your head, or knees. It is important for people to know how to make a controlled fall, and i really think that most people dont. 11 hours ago · Like · 6 Jeff H A 6' tall person's head can accelerate to 60kmh before it hits the ground falling straight down (tripping on a sidewalk crack) You are less expecting to fall rolling down the sidewalk going under 20kmh and can really be caught off guard when you fall in those situations (all my worst falls were impacts from less than 5kmh roll speeds i tend to skid out at higher speeds which is less of a direct impact) Just wear the damn thing all the time if you can! I try to, nobodys perfect but when im pulling slides or planning on going down a hill, gloves + helmet are a must. Also i dont have an issue carrying it i just keep it on my head. I unbuckle the chin strap if im not riding. If people think wearing a helmet is soft, ask them what type of riding they do.
