General

This is the third Alpha 3 Candidate build.  The previous build (a3c1) was deemed unacceptable.  This build delivers a better Installer script which should properly install from a floppy. 

New features

Bugs fixed for closure in this build

Reverted back to the 68K decompressor for risk reasons.

Fixed the "Installing on root", bug by creating the folder we are looking into.  For some reason the installer seems to create the CP folder at search time on some configurations, but not others, so just create if it's not there.

The Custom "I" box comments are in. They are not complete, but people who have changes to them should note the changes and send them to Bill Coderre ASAP

This is the Beta Candidate build.  The d3c2 build was declared Alpha.  This build delivers fixed script bugs.

New features
The system resource matrix was reviewed and updated.  This should fix all of the minimum system installation problems.
Logic was added to properly handle updating items in the Disabled folders.
VM logic was improved.  It should leave VM in the current state on a dirty install and default it on for PowerSurge and off for all others on a clean install.
The audit rules logic is complete.
The Installer interface is better and nearly final.

Known problems
Easy Install on a 950 crashes when it gets to the Finder - some system resources are missing.
Networking is probably broken on all machines that get both classic and OpenTransport (030, 040, PDM) - it wonÕt work in either mode.
OpenTransport is being installed with it defaulted on - it should be off for all but PowerSurge machines.
A set of window defproc resources are missing from all pre-PowerSurge machines - this causes a windowÕs close box and zoom box to be invisible - they still work, they just donÕt show up.

General

This is an SCM build, but it is NOT alpha quality yet.  This build delivers a more robust Installer script, fixed floppy bugs, and an updated CD.

The installer script features two new additions:
     * uncompressed tomes should drastically speed up installs
     * support for Zeus and Capone system files. Both Powersurge and pre-Powersurge machines should now have excellent system files.  So all machines should be able to boot and may even have the correct parts.

Known problems

It only has the ReallyBigTome - no floppy set, yet.  The Install Disk 1 floppy should boot and open the script, but the script will not install anything. In other words, donÕt bother clicking the Install button if you booted from the floppy Install Disk 1.

This is our first attempt at an SCM build.  It is NOT alpha quality yet.  The goal of this build is to validate the SCM build process and introduce the bootable CD for beginning to understand which machines it will boot.

Known problems

It only has the ReallyBigTome - no floppy set, yet.  The Install Disk 1 should boot and run the script, but the script is only a placeholder and will not install anything.

This installer will run on all the Unity-1 install base. It will complete an install on all those machines, BUT since it does not install the Zhag enablers, it will not boot all the machines.

This installer installs only a Capone system file on all machines. PowerSurge machines are required to have a Zeus system file. This is not done.

This installer installs a majority of the Unity-1 files (about 350 out of 500). It will not install them perfectly on all machines. (There is no completed specification matrix of which files are to be installed where.)

Certain packages have custom logic during easy install (ie. Open Transport). None of that work is done, partially because that logic is not specified yet.

Custom Installs and Removes have not been specified. Existing packages may or may not work right. This is because that specification work is not done.

The Disk Tools 2 disk and the Install Disk 1 do not boot on PB190 and PB5300 (found during quick look, but we are releasing the build anyway - this will be fixed for alpha).

„ What the heck is in this thing?

Because itÕs taking us a long time to get all the pieces of Zeus, Zhag, and 
Capone put together, and because itÕs such a mindbender figuring out the 
installation rules, we are taking an incremental approach to alpha quality level.

What weÕve done here is put Zeus and Zhag pieces into a Capone installer script, 
and add some new technology:
RBTT technology puts all the files, uncompressed, into one Ņreally big tome.Ó 
We hope this will speed up net installs and simplify installer scripts.
The new InstaCompOne decompressor is faster on all machines, and also is native 
on PowerPC machines. Again, it should be faster, with no impact on script 
engineering, especially on floppy installs. 

We send this to testing to make sure that weÕre starting off on the right foot. 
DonÕt expect art.

„ This build features the following:
1) Zeus+Capone tomes. Zeus+Zhag+Capone tomes soon.
2) One Big Tome disk set works. (It's currently using two disks.)
3) Out of order disk set that the install script doesn't work with.
This means that by the end of the week, we'll have a disk set that's got all the
 right parts, in the wrong order. ON TRACK for alpha, YEAH! (thank Deric)
4) "New Capone" install script that installs the Capone pieces (although some of
 the pieces are actually Zeus pieces)
5) Should work for all machines pre-7.5.2 (UNTESTED!)
6) Some kind of Custom installs. No idea if they work right, or if they match
 what U-1 wants in customs, but hey.
