"Everybody, gather around." All my children began converge in front of me. Four of my most precious treasures. I looked at them all, giving them each attention, knowing they needed it for what's ahead. I stood up from the bench I was on and put my phone down where I sat. My angels looked so innocent that I had to move my gaze away from them. My heart felt like it was in a vice grip. I have to be strong here. "The hospital called." Those innocent eyes seemed to spark at that moment. Stop. Don't look at me with those eyes. Tears almost welled in my eyes, but I shook my head to lose them. The cherubim-like eyes seemed at a loss. "Your mother.." Here I used all my strength to look at them. "You can't see her anymore. She's gone." Now the tears came into my eyes and I saw all my children stare at me for a second. The oldest turned away from the rest and cried, his face buried in his arm. The youngest looked around and felt the atmosphere bury her alive. She started bawling openly. The rest followed. My wife left me to handle this? I cursed myself the moment I thought that. She left me the strength to handle this. I can cry later, but now my children need me most. I took them all into my arms, trying to restrain my sadness that threatened to pour out. I have to guard these treasures of mine. They're the only things to remind me of her and she made all of them. "Even if she's gone, just remember: I will not leave you," I whispered, "I love you all too much."
