The Southwestern United Wildcats stole the victory away from the Murray County Central Rebels by a hair on Thursday, October 3rd. The MCC Student Body chose white apparel to counter the black clothing that the SWU Students chose to wear to this important and difficult match. The first match of the set started rather ill for the Rebels. The Wildcats gained three points up on the Rebels, which were taken back by the Rebels after a SWU Serve went out-of-bounds. Both teams committed a handful of faults throughout the first match, but the addition of bad communication from the Rebels pushed them even farther back. Coach Kati Bobelydk issued a timeout at 6-13 after her players stumbled over themselves to attempt to gain points. The Rebels tried with renewed gusto to bring the team back. Despite how hard they tried, the Wildcats played a solid game and didn't appear to make many mistakes in the match. The Rebels called another timeout at 13-22. On the game-point play of the first match, the SWU Volleyball Team missed their serve. Luckily for them, the MCC Rebels stumbled and committed a net fault to grant them the first win of the set at 17-25. The second match did not go in the favor of the Rebels. The first point was taken when the Rebels hit and out-of-bounds kill. This game was insanely close. The Rebels kept pulling themselves even in score with the Wildcats. The score jumped around from 4-4 to 13-13 and eventually to 23-23. Each serve that was missed by the Rebels in this match was equalled by the SWU Team missing a serve as well. Lady Rebel Jade Giese scored a nice kill on the Wildcats, which led to another point for MCC on a dropped ball. The Rebels scored up on the Wildcats until they called a timeout at 20-17. SWU Player [Player Name] (7) scored multiple kills and tips against the Rebels in all five matches of the night. The Rebels called two more timeouts at 23-21 and 23-23. The SWU Team continued strongly to finish out the second match with another win. The score was 23-25. The third match of the set marked the first win for the MCC Rebels. Player Sierra Van Ipren scored on a beautiful kill that landed in-bounds on the Wildcat's court at 2-0. The SWU Hitter's line continued strong throughout the entire set, but was combated by the Rebels' defensive players. The Rebels stepped up their game and gave the Cats a match to remember. They showed no mercy towards them and fought to bring the score even higher. The SWU Team issued a timeout at 17-9 in attempts to ice the home team. The Rebels allowed the Wildcats to ice them. The opposing team scored many kills and blocks that effectively added onto their score. The Rebels faulted on their game-point play at 24-17 and accidentally had four hits on their side. They pulled out victorious to the Wildcats, however, with a score of 25-18 to secure their first win in the set. The Southwestern United Wildcats had first serve in the forth match. Lady Rebel Kristi Bose scored the first point, however, with a powerful kill. The Rebels worked hard to keep themselves up by 2-4 points for almost the entire match. Throughout the set, both sides of the crowd were extremely rowdy. An immense uproar of school spirit was shown during the set from both sides of the student body. Contraire to the previous matches, the SWU Wildcats had started to commit quite a few faults. The exhaustion could be seen from both teams. The opposing team called a timeout at 19-14. This allowed them to bring themselves back up with serves and kills until they were almost equal to the Rebels at 20-17. Many things happened in the final ten minutes of the game, but the Rebels outplayed the Wildcats in the end. Lady Rebel Jade Giese scored a kill on one of the final plays of the match. They took their second win in a hardy manner, with a score of 25-22. Tensions were high in the final match of the set. Either team could have come out on top in this match. The Rebels started out extremely strong and tried to get the game over with quickly. The Wildcats denied the Rebels from scoring too many points from them at 5-7. They flipped a switch and went offensive towards the Rebels. The entire match was very close in the end. Lady Rebel Kristi Bose hits a final kill onto the Wildcats on their game-point play at 14-13, which scared them into calling a timeout. The pressure from the crowd and match finally took its toll on the Rebels' team. The final point of the last set was given to the Southwestern United Wildcats due to a short serve by the MCC Rebels. The match score ended at 13-15, while the set score was 3-2.
