My multiuniverse headcanon, ft. Mikoto Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell), Misato Katsuragi (Evangelion series), Revi [Rebecca]kindasortanotreallybutyah (Black Lagoon) and Usagi Tsukino (Saaaaailoooor Moon) They are all one person, more or less. They look the same more or less and they're all super fucking badass ladypeople. It all depends on [spoilaaaaaaaaaz] the Evangelion series' ability to rewrite itself and the fact that there is no single canon story in GitS, as the plot varies from series to series, and between the series and films. Anno (Eva's creator) said that he imagine Misato as the grown up version of Usagi, and the design of the 2 characters is more or less identical, including their little earstuds that are ever present. However, it is impossible for them to be the same person if we keep the stories from all the series canon in the basics, meaning that Misato is orphaned at an early age, which isn't possible with Usagi and Usagi never wears the necklace Misato's father gave her when he died, so yah. The link between Misato and Usagi requires a reasonable amout of rough manipulation, as there is no way to keep the 2 series' canons whilst making them the same person. As such, Usagi's world -the world of the Sailor Moon series- is purely inside Misato's mind. When the Second Impact occurred, Misato's father was killed and afterwards she went into a catatonic state for several (I think 3?) years, during which she was contained in a cell-like room and spoke to no one. It's during these years that the events of the Sailor Moon series happened. She mentally takes the name of Tsukino Usagi [putting it in the Japanese style to serve my headcanon and because uh it makes more sense] perhaps having heard in passing details of the First Impact, where a "moon" (Seed of Lilith) impacted with Earth and wiped out all life that had started to appear. When the Second Impact happened, one of the last things Misato sees is the pseudoAdams rising up, and perhaps the moon is the last thing she sees when the pod closes (all spculation, serious amounts of speculation and shit, but the events in NGE can be rewritten over and over, endlessly SO THIS IS MY REWRITE). Usagi means rabbit, and Tsukino Usagi is made into the pun of Moon Rabit/Rabbit of the Moon in the Sailor Moon series, which explains away the name change. Anyways now to explain Misato to Mikoto. When the Second Impact happened, the pod didn't entirely keep Misato safe and most of her body was damaged beyond saving, but SEELE had plans for her (why else would she have been at the Second Impact, a planned event?) and as such funded a very basic Evangelion unit project, which resulted in the first working cybernetic body. Misato was 'transferred' into this unit, but never made aware of her condtion. Due to the unit being incredibly experimental, the transfer wasn't a 100% success, and alternations had to be made to connect all the neural wiring in her new body; for 3 or so years they worked on perfecting the unit, until she was finally able to talk and function properly. SEELE then gave her a relatively normal life, and Misato was never made aware of their existence, and her artificial body was kept a closely guarded secret, even from her. Eventually Misato is recruited into NERV per SEELE's plans and lives the onscreen events of the series (more or less). [In episode 7 of the NGE series, Misato goes into an experimental robot powered by a fusion reactor that is not responding to commands, and whose reactor is going into meltdown. The override password fails to shutdown the system, and Misato attempts to manually push one of the cooling rods into place. It moves an impressive amount, but not enough. Eventually the system is shutdown per Ikari's plans and the unit doesn't explode. The amout that Misato pushes the rod into place is possible only because of her cybernetic body. Maybe. Yah] In this version of the events in Evangelion, Third Impact never happens, or is permanently averted and all the angels are defeated, meaning NERV is disbanded and all personnel must take up other jobs, although most join the more normal armed forces, or work to rebuild humanity. As a fair well/thank you gift to Misato, SEELE reveals to her the secret of her body, and that thanks to her the field of cybernetics has advanced greatly, and a large part of the technology for the Evangelion units was based on the prelimonary work done for her. Unsure how to take the news that her body is entirely artificial, save for her brain, Misato takes some time off from being a badass and helps Ritsuko with her work, even volounteering herself as research (although not for anything too dangerous) until realising that her talents are better served elsewhere. She applies for a job in Section 9, a newly founded Japanese government intelligence department where she takes the alias of Mikoto, and changes her appearence so as to move freely without being recognised by any of her former NERV colleagues. Whilst working with Ritsuko, she learnt how to programme and perform basic hacks, but before she leaves, Ritsuko transfers information about net diving and more advanced hacking, as a final fair well and thank you. As for Revy well uh...idk they dress the same, drink the same and look the same so idk. Maybe Misato, as Mikoto, had to go into deep cover, and so as to protect her true identity and all of the information she held, they backed up and erased her memories, and implanted her with new false ones. I know there's no cyborgs in Black Lagoon so it totally fucks with the canon of that but THEY LOOK IDENTICAL Y'KNOW. Maybe she's a preNERV version of Misato in another other alternate Evangelion rewrite, where the Second Impact was a failure and her father was discredited and then her life turned into that of Revy. That's it, I have nothing else and I know it's all total shit but it amuses me.
