1. She couldn’t have a boy. This is a man vs. Nature conflict. After She had a girl, She wasn’t able to have any more kids. She was devastated and wanted a boy badly so she went to the doctor for help. Drought. This conflict is Man vs. Nature. The monson didn’t arrive one year and caused all of their crops to die and they were unable to get money or food. Monsoon rain. This conflict is also Man vs. Nature. The monsoon flooded their crops and washed them away, it also damages their home. 2. The drought causes them to make some tough choices and they will pay the price for them later, but I think they made the right decision on keeping the crops. In the long run they can pay them off by selling the crops next year. Id probably make the same decision if i was in that kind of issue. That'd be the only thing I owned and Id try my best to keep it. 3. She sees mango leaves, but they are all dried up and rattling in the wind. They symbolize happiness and good fortune, but because they are all dried up then it could symbolize tough times and bad fortune. 4. She is upset that the baby is a girl. She wanted to please her husband with a boy child. Her reaction shows that women aren't as important as men in this society. 5. Kennington is the doctor that helps her have a boy. She doesn't want anyone, especially her husband, knowing that she didn't have a boy. 6. She is unhappy because she puts it in a different point of view. She sees the worse side of them being there and not the good side. I think she is right about it because the prices will go up and it will be harder to buy things. 7. Because it is an opportunity for them to make money. It shows they are smart and opportunity takers. Her sons are excited about this and know that it will be good for them but she isn’t very happy about it and doesn’t want them to go. 8. Since the story is in her point of view, you really get to experience what she and her sons are going through. They are both on the outside of the conflicts and issues in the story, and you wouldn’t get the full effect if it was told from their point of view. 9. I personally feel that she might answer family. This is because because she is so devoted to helping her family. I would definitely choose family also because they love me and I love them and their always there for me when i need them most. You can tell from this that she is like most people, she values family the most and is a good person.
