“If everyone wanted to be a fireman, who would make the fires” The quote “If everyone wanted to be a fireman, who would make the fires” would seem childish and illogical to anyone that would perceive it in our modern day society assuming it meant what they thought it meant but actually it can be applied to a lot of different topics with the help of some deep thinking and the addition of an open mind. If you apply this to the topic of religion, without the obvious fireman theme and expand it into the theory: “If everyone believed in god, who would question his existence”. Which implies it would have to sprout from a single ‘non believer’, and a very convincing one to change a single persons opinion from agreeing with the entire world to hearing out a delusional being claiming everything he knew and worshipped was wrong. The question that incites me is how? How could someone think such a thing without influence? Around the world there are numerous religions, and this always confused me as to why they were all so immensely different such as Hinduism. If all religions are different why should I as a person believe any of them and take any of them on-board as real and not utter bullshit? If there was only one religion or belief such as Deism who would question it if everyone believed the same thing? This brings me to belief that the separation of regions is an obvious factor, and another one being that religion would have had to be sparked by a single being having a religious encounter. Terrence McKenna was a very wise man and idol of mine who passed away in 2000 and had a theory called the “Stoned Ape” theory which he says took play around 100,000 BC which was when he believed the events happened in which transformation from humans' early ancestors Homo erectus to the species Homo sapiens mainly had to do with the addition of the mushroom Psilocybe cubensis in its diet. This mushroom is a known hallucinogen and according to McKenna it gave humans their first religious experiences which would explain the metaphorical ‘seed’ that planted different religions all around the world and slowly grew from small into worldwide beliefs. If McKenna theories could be proven to be true, religion could be completely disproven without question by a single plant. A plant that is ironically frowned upon in our self-destructive society because of the government and media reporting and over exaggerating. Without anyone to question the true power of worldwide media, we are and always will be in the dark about things that we as humans do that are not ‘acceptable’ as an evolving culture of hypocrites, political corruption and hedonistic people that consider themselves as a 21st century god that project messages upon us as if we were mindless sheep. After deep research online about Terrence McKenna and his lectures, I understand why I’ve never heard of this before via the media. It’s because religion isn’t really what everyone else thinks religion is, I believe religion as we know it is a guideline to live a happy and socially acceptable lifestyle with the promise that we will live eternally in a divine null that is a heaven or an afterlife created for the good who deem worthy enough and live by the said commandments. You are your own god; embrace the fact that you are your own unique individual and you can experience the love and bliss that is our reality and universe that we live in and to block out the sad and bleak that happens in the world. If you feel empathy towards things that you see on television such as “save the children” question why us as a race doesn’t do anything about it rather than donating towards something that probably isn’t even going to Africa. Why is the pope praying for a fiction character with his solid gold sceptre on his solid gold throne making up solid gold bullshit broadcasted to the world in hope for pity, empathy and most likely ‘faith’ towards the equivalent of a dimethyltryptamine induced Santa Claus. Free yourself as an individual, free your mind. If religion makes you happy who am I to tell you what you believe in, all I hope for is some open mindedness and appreciation for yourself. If you give away all your undivided attention to icons projected by the media you are and always will be disempowered.
