Ive got a bunch, this all occurred when i worked at a machine shop: Boss demanded i work a 23.5 hour day then return to work at 6am the following morning (thats a 1/2 hour to drive home and sleep AND drive back) to return to work on heavy machinery. Forced to wash bosses classic car collection on a regular basis. Forced to pull weeds out of the cracks in huge parking lot. No tools, just my hands. 8hr shift. The next day i was told to do the same thing but to scrape the dirt out of the cracks this time. Forced to scrape decades of grime and tar off the shop floor. 3" thick. After 10 hours i had cleaned 6 square feet. Completely pointless. Forced to climb on top of a 100yr old RUNNING drill press to oil the bearings. Nearly lost my hand when the bearings seized. Forced to dig thru a dumpster and each trash bag to retrieve a check that was mistakenly thrown away by my boss 3 days prior. 6 hours later... found the check, torn up into little pieces. didnt even need to look for it anyway. Forced to clean aluminum parts with toxic corrosive solvents and acids... no gloves are safety glasses. When i complained i was given vinyl food service gloves that were about 20 years old and no goggles. the gloves melted onto my hands upon contact with solvents. My boss found that hilarious. Told to manufacture parts to within .003 tolerance (extremely precise) on literally broken machining equipment that had been broken for 20 years without repair. When my boss was informed his request was impossible to accomplish due to the state of repair of the machinery, he was totally pissed and completely taken aback that his 20+ year neglected machinery was not functional. The staff was accused of breaking the equipment to avoid work and sent home for 3 days until the boss relented and paid to fix the equipment he neglected for 20 years. Even the repair guy was disgusted and told my boss the machine was destroyed by neglect. Told to take my lunch break (paid) working at my machining station (filthy cutting coolant and metal shavings thrown everywhere, not to mention heavy machinery all around me) If i wanted to eat lunch in a sanitary and safe place i was told to clock out and go home for the DAY. forced to piss in the shop bathroom sink for MONTHS (all guys at this shop) because the toilet got clogged and boss refused to call a plumber. The office bathroom was off limits to all shop staff. Some people had some close calls and nearly shit themselves at work. yeah... that place was fun. did i mention my boss would also THROW blocks of aluminum at you if you made a machining mistake? and i don't mean throw it in your general direction, i mean throw a block of aluminum right at your head. Did i also mention this job paid 8$ an hour? yeah... fuck that. It was an unfucking believable experience. eventually i one day i walked into work one morning, dreading existence, and shortly after clocking in i was greeted with a screaming boss and a huge workload for the day. I was done. that was it. No more. I was still holding my time card and i tore it up and threw it on the ground then spit on it and walked out. I was followed to my car by my boss, berating me about how i better not come back and beg for my job back. I went home and had a nice 2 hour long phone call with OSHA and the Dept. of labor. I also made sure to contact all my former coworkers and have them call as well. I also called the BBB and reported them as being an extremely unscrupulous business and shipping "referb" (used) manifolds and brand new. This is fraud. I considered contacting the customers and informing them of the fraud... but i just wanted to forget about the entire thing at that point. My old boss was righteously fucked in the ass by OSHA and the Dept. of labor. and prosecuted for wage theft. As far as i know the shop was shut down last year and the property is for sale, i don't know why tho. I swear if i ever run into my old boss randomly on the street i am going to bludgeon him to death with the nearest blunt object.
