you: Do you offer E5 1660 v2 as a CPU> you: ?* Joe M: I'm not 100% sure. it doesn't look like it though. Is there a specific reason you're looking for that CPU? you: Got recommended it, you could help me choose a CPU if you wouldn't mind? Joe M: sure what are you looking to do with it? you: Current Specs: E3 1270v2 3.5GHz 256GB Samsung Pro SSD 1 Gbit port 32GB RAM you: The cpu is running at full capacity so I need something that can handle my game server. you: (which is java) (only runs one core) Joe M: what game server are you running? you: Minecraft ;) Joe M: ahh gotcha. So you're looking for something that have more Ghz per core correct? you: Okay, let's step back one step. I am not exactly sure what I am looking for. But I can confirm the current CPU is running at 96%-100% Joe M: sure Joe M: which DS number are you having the server on? you: Well it's the only one running an E3 1270v2, let me check. Joe M: is it the newest one? you: Service ID 207191 you: Primary IP:64.150.177.130 Joe M: sure you: So can you run checks on the CPU? you: And make a recommendation? Joe M: well if your server runs on only one core then you need more Ghz. you: Of course. Joe M: we unfortunately don't have anything faster that 3.5 Ghz Joe M: per core anywyas Joe M: anyway* you: And to confirm, Minecraft only runs one on core? Joe M: I'm not too sure about that. what server are you running? Joe M: Joe M: I'm not too familiar with how that works. you: A Minecraft server that runs through Java. But I believe java does not support multi-threading. Joe M: do you have any links or information on it I can look at? you: As context of the server or the Minecraft idea of a server? you: How well do you know Minecraft servers? Joe M: I don't at all. I've never ran one you: hmm Joe M: Just searching on the web there looks to be quite a few references to what you're looking for Joe M: Is the game running slowly? I don't think it's a bad thing to have it run 96% or higher on a core. at least not from what I'm reading. Joe M: you: The server is lagging yes. Currently it is a massive size map (which it has to be for how we want to run the server). you: We currently lag at around 30 players and we plan to get 500 players on release. Joe M: what version of server are you running? is it 1.1.0 or more? you: oh god, you really don't know about Minecraft do you :P you: We are running 1.7.2 you: Spigot jar - adapted for servers Joe M: I've never ran a minecraft server. you: I appreciate your help considering you don't know, thanks. Joe M: unfortunately I'm not really sure how to help you. you: It's not really a software issue here. The hardware we feel is slowing us down. Joe M: the only thing you could really do in that case is to get more cores. it looks like the newer versions of the servers are multi threaded and spawn processes for certain things. you: hhmmm I will have to double check that, I'm pretty sure that is not the case for us.
