ASCENSION 8 BRIEF ****deadline for this is on the 7th of June. At 7:00 pm EST**** Hey DoD’s!!! I’m Houston Sharp and I’m thrilled to be your Art Director for Ascension 8! A little something about myself: I rub the lotion on it’s skin while I watch Frozen (Ricky insisted I say that AND make it the first – and therefore most important - thing about myself). I’ve been painting since I was 17, and am now currently studying illustration and entertainment design at Art Center College of Design. I also simultaneously work freelance on games and movies; more recently the card game “Legend of the Cryptids.” I’m really excited to be doing this month’s challenge, so thank you for having me and I’m hoping to see some amazing art from you guys! *** BRIEF *** DIMENSIONS: 3000x4000 300dpi TITLE: Incorporate a small title at the top left corner “DRAW OR DIE” and at the bottom of the piece, centered, small font “ASCENSION 8” Fonts and sizes may vary but we want to see your ability to design and be creative with logos as some commissions might require you to make titles as well. So don't just apply basic text with drop shadow, for example. SETTING: The setting is gritty but futuristic. Stay away from clean futuristic designs. Everything in this world has to be worn, torn and has to look like it’s been used. Other than that, anything else goes. THE CHARACTER: FURY His body can be thin muscular to medium muscular. Not massively muscular. He wears a mask. It has to look as evil as you can possibly fathom. No one knows what his face looks like… and no one wants to find out. He may be covered in blood stains, as he’s always killing. Battle worn armor. He should have hieroglyphic style Male symbol on his armor. Another design challenge. Make this symbol cool and stay away from corny. Add to it if you wish but do not take away from the shape. In other words, you can attach other symbols or designs to it if you wish, just as long as the symbol is still there and it’s still somewhat recognizable. You can light it up in neon or just make it look like it was inscribed onto the armor, it’s completely up to you. Fury should instantly strike fear. He’s what war would look like, if war had a body. His eyes can glow red if you wish. COLOR SCHEME: His colors should be red, black and white. WEAPON: A long sword or baton of fire. Should have heavy sci fi elements. It has to look like the fire is artificial. THE SCENE: Paint Fury in a bad-ass pose or battle pose whichever you prefer. Just make him look cynical and deadly. This guy would punt a box of kittens for fun. He’s an unbelievable asshole. …try to avoid illustrating him punting a box of kittens. _____________________________________ FURY: "When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come.” And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him." — Revelation 6:3-4 As Purge sets foot on earth, the battle begins. Cameras surround Maibus and Purge. People all around the world watch in awe and for some reason, are rooting this villain named Purge. The battle lasts 6 minutes. Purge is victorious. “Let him come to me sir… I’ll wait here in the capital, we know he’s coming here next. I will bring you his skull.” “You better not fail us Fury… this asshole is ruining everything. We will send back up. No mistakes this time.” “If you send reinforcements, I will kill every single one of them, Sentry or not, THEN, I will find you… and kill you. DO NOT INSULT ME.” “Try us Fury.” ____________________________________________ Electronic Message from ANONYMOUS: “Fury’s past is a mix of theories. Some believe he used to be a soldier who was killed in combat and used as an experiment by the NWC for the sentry program. Others believe Fury isn’t fully human. What is known is that the public fears Fury as he brings certain death. Fury is usually the first to get called by the NWC during revolts or strikes. He holds no prisoners and finds joy in killing. Chances are, if you’ve seen Fury at close range, you’re lucky to be reading this. Caleb this guy’s a real asshole. Be careful” “Men Caleb… they’ve been around for longer than we know. They’ve had the opportunity to bring great things to this universe time and time again. At times they have and I marvel at the beauties they bring with their art and their music… but man has such an urge for destruction and pain. Since the dawn of time, they’ve only gotten better at one thing… killing each other. We’re at the brink of something, a change is coming and Man will be judged. Humanity knows nothing about it’s origins. We run around clueless trying to be gods. This portal they’re bulding… it’s a gateway. We have to make sure it’s not opened. We have to stop them Caleb.” END MESSAGE PREVIOUSLY: For reasons unknown Purge is hunting down every existing Trans-Human “Sentry” and killing them in cold blood. He has defeated Maibus…His next target; “Fury” Purge has been labeled as earth’s most notorious villain. But what does he know that we don’t? THE STORY: It’s the year 2918. Earth is now running out of natural resources. Man is now capable of traveling outside the solar system and deeper into the galaxy. Space endeavors are being kept in shadow by the NWC… and so it’s unknown (to most common men) just how far we’ve traveled out into the stars. The colonization of Earth’s Moon, Mars and Europa, is still in progress but the colonies have been successful and are now completely self efficient. NOTE: The NWC “New World Confederation” is a unification of all sovereign nations on Earth and its colonies. This new unification is also known as the “Bohemian Unity” and is represented by an Owl. Man is about to embark on their biggest challenge yet; inter-dimensional space travel. Scientists have discovered a way to travel faster than the speed of light. A wormhole is being built outside of the solar system. Many marvel at the possibilities… and many fear the repercussions. Most remaining people on earth are scavengers or travelers, with many militia men and killers. Earth is a world of chaos, where only the strong survive. The Bohemian senate is located on Europa, as most higher class citizens are. Humanity has reached the next level in evolution. .0001 percent of humans are now born with supernatural abilities.
